9. Potato Chips
Potato chips are among the most popular snacks in the world. In order to become crispy, potato chips are deep-fried in temperatures above 248 degrees Fahrenheit (120 degrees Celsius). Because of this high temperature, a chemical known as acrylamide becomes present in this snack. In case you’re unaware, acrylamide is a carcinogen that’s also found in cigarettes, and increases the risk of you developing quite a few types of cancer (including prostate, breast, ovarian, and digestive tract cancer).
Apart from that, potato chips also contain a lot of calories and are high in fat, so eating them may result in high cholesterol, weight gain, and high blood pressure. On top of all that, they contain various preservatives and artificial flavors that make them even unhealthier. If you truly feel the need to eat some potato chips, try making your own using olive oil at home.
