None of them work. Some didn’t work at all, like the Fast Diet which I followed to a tee. Some of the others, I didn’t have the willpower to follow, they were hardcore. Who can blame me?
I used to blame myself – “If only I were more disciplined” – but you know what? Life is not for living so rigidly.
Life is about being happy. We should try to get the most of it. Life happens, it could be a birthday or a celebration. It was not only about willpower, but life not being about dieting.
I’m not justifying eating whatever you want. That’s not realistic or mature. We’re adults and know that to stay healthy and slim we need to eat responsibly. BUT responsibly means just that. Responsibly. It’s all about balance.
The more you try to restrain yourself, the more you want to eat. This is why strict diets rarely work.
I realised this and promised myself I would give up strict diets. I would be mature about food and health, eating well whenever I had the chance. This meant trying to chose the healthier option and not freaking out if I didn’t. You don’t gain weight by making one bad choice, but by giving up completely.
This freed me from the food prison I lived in. However, it didn’t make me lose any weight. I was happy that I had made peace with food but I still wanted to lose weight. I mean, hello, that’s what I dieted for in the first place.
I wasn’t on a food roller coaster anymore. I assumed my body and weight would find their natural balance. I was wrong.
It was easier to decide what to eat every meal. I really liked not having a strict diet, but life remained in the way. Drinks with co-workers, birthdays, dinners with friends, cinema… and I enjoy eating! Sometimes it’s hard to always be responsible about food choices. I needed to burn more calories than I ate. I didn’t have the time to go to the gym.
I bought an exercise bike, and OMG, what a waste! 30 minutes cycling and I burnt maybe two cookies.
I’m not saying you shouldn’t exercise. Everyone knows that exercise is good for you! For me, though, it wasn’t going to make me lose much weight. I thought about giving up. Maybe a thinner me wasn’t meant to be.
I was eating better but exercising hadn’t made me slimmer. What else could I do?
Then something great happened….. I started working for Magic Blends.
